With Deadlight: Director’s Cut Abstraction Games was asked to create an HD-update that would fix most of the issues found with the original release and create a new game mode – Survival Mode – and port the game over to current generation consoles.

I was in charge of the overall game improvement and the development of Survival Mode. One of my main focus points with additional game mode was to make sure that Survival Mode stayed true to the “outgunned and outnumbered” feel of the original game, as it could easily turn out to become a slugfest, which would ruin Tequila’s unique approach to the Zombie Genre.

We created a large new area “St Declan’s Hospital” where the player needed to flee and fight for its survival. To help the player we created multi-functional movable barricades that provided temporary obstruction to oncoming zombies, but also allowed the player to reach new areas.  Some areas are sealed and required the player to break through or find a way to climb a nasty ledge, but once found we placed a new extremely powerful sniper rifle or the instantly satisfying machine gun. Molotov cocktails spread their blaze through large groups of zombies, but are dangerous to the player as well.
